How Should You Choose A CS Professional Elective?

Start by checking which electives are available for your exam session. Then consider:

Your interests: Choose a subject you are willing to study in depth.

Your career direction: For example, students interested in intellectual property may consider the IPR elective, while those drawn to dispute resolution may look at Arbitration, Mediation & Conciliation.

Your preparation resources: Review the current ICSI study material and past question papers before deciding.

The exam format: Open-book exams still require strong understanding and answer-writing practice. Confirm ICSI’s current exam instructions.

Do not select an elective based only on its title or a perceived reputation for being easy. Read the syllabus and sample or past papers first.

How To Prepare For The CS Professional Subjects

Read the official syllabus and study material for your exam session before setting a timetable. For each paper, divide the syllabus into topics and plan time for revision and answer writing. Practise applying concepts to case-based questions, especially in papers involving compliance, drafting, audit or restructuring.

For an elective, include time to organise reference material and practise finding relevant information quickly, while following ICSI’s exam rules. Check ICSI supplements and updates before the examination, as applicable material may change by session.
