CA Foundation Course Structure
The CA Foundation course comprises four subjects, divided into both objective and subjective formats:
- Accounting :
Focuses strictly on accounting frameworks, company accounts, partnership records, and the foundational technical skills required to build complex financial statements. - Business Laws :
Business Correspondence and Reporting (BCR) is entirely removed. The paper focuses strictly on key commercial legislation including the Indian Contract Act, Sale of Goods Act, Partnership Act, and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs). - Quantitative Aptitude :
Combines Business Mathematics (calculus, matrices, interest math), Logical Reasoning (spatial arrangements, series decoding), and Statistics (probability distributions, core correlation tracking). - Business Economics :
Business and Commercial Knowledge (BCK) is entirely removed. The updated syllabus features deeper microeconomic consumer market insights and broad macroeconomic frameworks including international trade policy, public finance models, and monetary banking systems.
New Syllabus for CA Foundation 2026
The new CA Foundation syllabus has changed to align with the latest industry demands. Two subjects have been discontinued—Business Correspondence & Reporting and Business & Commercial Knowledge. Students are now required to secure 50% marks overall to pass, with 40% in each subject.
Through Foundation Course Route:
> Enroll after passing Class 10th Examination recognized by Indian law or an equivalent examination.
> Appear for Foundation Examination post completion of Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) recognized by Indian law or an equivalent examination.
Through Direct Entry Route:
> Commerce Graduates/Post-Graduates (55%) or Other Graduates/Post-Graduates (60%) can enroll directly in CA-Intermediate.
> Those passing the Intermediate level exam of Institute of Company Secretaries of India or Institute of Cost Accountants of India can also directly enroll in CA-Intermediate.
Candidates must have passed or be appearing for the 10+2 examination from a recognized board.

This CA Foundation course is valid for three years after you have registered. This means that if you fail to pass the CA foundation exam on your first attempt, you can retake the exam up to five times without having to pay the CA registration fee.
